Asset tagging helps you locate, distribute, and configure your hardware assets by interlaying a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Information System) to your fixed assets. This program is also another security checkpoint, to make sure that you know where your hardware is at all times, further minimizing the threat of a data breach. Whether it be with RFID, barcoding, or serial numbers, asset tagging has many benefits for both the consumer and the enterprise company.

MDSi to demonstrate Asset Lifecycle Management (ALM) solutions at the Cable-Tec Expo ‘15 with strategic partner Fulcrum Technologies.
Advancements in technology require Communications Service Providers (CSP’s) to upgrade network equipment frequently, resulting in unused equipment and excess inventory. One of the many benefits of asset lifecycle management (ALM) is recovering value from equipment and parts that are no longer needed for their original purpose. As a leader in cost avoidance and asset management programs and services, MDSi looks forward to our annual participation in the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo.
Take Control of Your Asset Funnel Through Reverse Logistics
It has become apparent that a new cost-effective approach to controlling the flow of materials is needed within the reverse logistics supply chain. The adoption of complex Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, such as SAP and Oracle, within the last decade has shown great improvements to the issue at hand, however, companies still face the issue of not utilizing the reverse logistics supply chain due to the continued lack of sophistication in the process. The need for a new system with incongruent data has made recovered assets, de-commissioned technology, moved assets, spares returns, and project excess difficult and frustrating for many companies that support the reverse logistics supply chain.

Centralized Visibility for Dexterous Inventory and Asset Lifecycle Management
Rapid expansion of businesses, along with an acute upsurge in technological trends, demands for clear-cut estimation and evaluation of company resources. Major firms relentlessly monitor their equipment and purchase appropriate products for achieving maximum output. However, organizations often make erroneous decisions by procuring duplicate hardware due to lack of visibility of all available assets within their asset lifecycle management processes. As a result, companies are burdened with unnecessary equipment purchase expenses and poor reliability around new technology acquisitions, making centralized visibility of all available hardware critical to optimize infrastructure performance.

I recently came a cross a study performed by the Anthesis Group and Jonathan Koomey, a Research Fellow at Stanford University, which centered on server utilization. Throughout the study they looked at the growing epidemic of what they call “comatose servers.” By their definition, a comatose server is one that has not delivered information or computing services in at least six months, but is still live.
