5G wireless networks are going to usher in a new age of higher data rates, Industry 4.0, IoT devices, and driverless cars. To support the millions of devices invading our lives we must first take all of our supporting infrastructure to the next level. This transformation will have a significant impact on Communication Service Provider (CSP) assets and infrastructure, and those companies who have a solid Asset Lifecycle Management (ALM) practice in place will have the most cost efficient roll-out.
Philadelphia- home of the cheese steak, Liberty Bell, and now the 2016 Cable Tec Expo. MDSI, Inc.. was honored to be featured at the 2016 SCTE Expo, and we genuinely enjoyed our experience. The conference was held at the beautiful and grand Pennsylvania Convention Center in Downton Philadelphia, PA. We had a fantastic week of meeting and interacting with everyone there. We hope that everyone enjoyed the time they spent there and was able to learn about the latest trends in the cable communications industry.
Take Control of Your Asset Funnel Through Reverse Logistics
It has become apparent that a new cost-effective approach to controlling the flow of materials is needed within the reverse logistics supply chain. The adoption of complex Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, such as SAP and Oracle, within the last decade has shown great improvements to the issue at hand, however, companies still face the issue of not utilizing the reverse logistics supply chain due to the continued lack of sophistication in the process. The need for a new system with incongruent data has made recovered assets, de-commissioned technology, moved assets, spares returns, and project excess difficult and frustrating for many companies that support the reverse logistics supply chain.
Is Your Data Center Becoming More ICU than CPU?
I recently came a cross a study performed by the Anthesis Group and Jonathan Koomey, a Research Fellow at Stanford University, which centered on server utilization. Throughout the study they looked at the growing epidemic of what they call “comatose servers.” By their definition, a comatose server is one that has not delivered information or computing services in at least six months, but is still live.
Asset Lifecycle Management: Achieving Cost Avoidance Through Informed Decision Making
As technology continues to change and an organization expands, proper administration of current technology assets becomes essential. Reduced visibility during asset lifecycle management increases expenses, decreases reliability, and is detrimental to business operations. Does your company find itself purchasing duplicate hardware, increasing inactive inventory? Do you have a centralized tool that will easily give you an accurate inventory of both inactive and active hardware across your global infrastructure? Are you paying for storage space for inactive hardware that you can make money on through decommission or redeployment?
